American oilfield services company SLB (formerly Schlumberger) reduced its net profit by 27% and revenue by 3% in the third quarter, with both indicators exceeding experts' expectations.

According to the company's press release, net profit in July-September amounted to $739 million, or $0.5 per share, compared to $1.19 billion, or $0.83 per share, for the same period last year.

Adjusted earnings were $0.69 per share.

Revenue decreased to $8.93 billion from $9.16 billion a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet predicted adjusted earnings of $0.65 per share on revenue of $8.92 billion.

SLB's revenue in North America increased by 14% in the past quarter to $1.93 billion. Meanwhile, revenue from international markets fell by 7% to $6.92 billion.

The company's board of directors approved a dividend of 28.5 cents per share. Payments will be made on January 8. The closing date for the shareholder register is December 3.

SLB shares are up 1.2% in pre-market trading on Friday.
