The Ukrainian Exchange lost 0.6% on Monday to start out the week, while other emerging markets also had a challenging day on uncertainty on the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the U.S. east coast and Russia slipped again on retreating oil. Six of the index’s 10 blue chips fell, led by Centrenergo (CEEN UK) -1.8% and Avdiivka Coke (AVDK UK) -1.3%. Warsaw’s WIG-Ukraine index also succumbed to selling pressure, dropping 1.3% yesterday, even though only two of its 11 index components were down. The biggest decliner there was Kernel (KER PW) -2.4%, ahead of the formal release of its FY2012 financial report after market close. Several WSE-traded stocks managed sizable gains though, including Industrial Milk Company (IMC PW) +8.2% and Sadovaya Group (SGR PW) +3.8%. Though European futures are green this morning, we think Ukraine will take a cue from the declines in Asian markets and Russia and extend its losses today.
