Samsung Electronics America will launch support for the USDC stablecoin directly within Samsung Wallet for users of compatible Galaxy devices in the U.S. during the last week of October.
USDC will be the first supported stablecoin. Users will be able to send USDC to compatible crypto wallets, as well as transfer funds to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, where recipients can receive payments in local currency.
Samsung is developing the service’s infrastructure in collaboration with Coinbase and Bastion. Coinbase will facilitate USDC as the primary dollar-pegged stablecoin in Samsung Wallet, and assets will be stored via Coinbase Prime Vault. The blockchain projects Solana and Sui have also been announced as technology partners.
According to Coinbase, the potential audience for this integration exceeds 82 million Galaxy users in the U.S.
Samsung views this launch as the first phase of a broader integration of stablecoins. Going forward, the company envisions the possibility of using them to pay for goods and services online and directly via smartphone in stores, as well as expanding the service to other markets.
For the crypto industry, the launch is significant primarily as an example of stablecoins moving beyond specialized crypto apps. Samsung is effectively embedding cross-border transfer tools into a standard mobile wallet, which intensifies competition among blockchain payments, banks, and traditional money transfer services.
