CDs outstanding increase
Last Friday, the volume of ON CDs purchased rose by UAH1.35bn to UAH6.89bn, possibly as the number of banks that bought these CDs increased from 44 last Thursday to 50 last Friday. Also, fourteen banks purchased UAH2.50bn of 14-day CDs, which will be redeemed prior to the last few days of month-end tax payments. As a result, total CDs outstanding were up UAH1.88bn to UAH48.07bn as banks' correspondent accounts with the NBU declined just UAH1.16bn to UAH25.64bn yesterday. Overall, banking sector liquidity rose UAH0.72bn to UAH73.725bn.
Investment implications: Yesterday's liquidity indicators reflect last Friday's deals and continued to show a recovery in liquidity. We anticipate that liquidity will increase further this week with CDs outstanding rising significantly higher as this instrument is now the shortest maturity available for banks to purchase.
