The Uglegorsk Thermal Power Plant (TPP) of Centrenergo (CEEN UK) commissioned its power unit #4 on November 13, the Interfax-Ukrayina news agency reported, citing a regional government report. The 300MW power unit was operating at a working capacity of 100MW, according to the source.

Uglegorsk TPP caught fire on March 29, which resulted in damage to its power workshop building, partial damage to power units #1 and #4 and severe damage to its power units #2 and #3. Initially, the government was planning to restore and recommission the two least damaged power units by December 2013. The first power unit was commissioned on October 8, and after that Centrenergo declared it would restart the fourth unit on November 15.

Alexander Paraschiy: The commissioning of one more power unit at the station should enable it to operate more smoothly and secure uninterrupted supply of power and heat to its satellite city. For instance, the first power unit, commissioned ahead of schedule, does not look to be operating consistently: it was unable to work for three days in October, according to official data provided by the state dispatcher. Given that #4’s commissioning was fully anticipated, we do not expect any market reaction to it. At the same time, we also stress that the recovered unit has yet to demonstrate that it’s able to work stably.
